Valencia

Valencia, Spain: the weather, the air, the distance to the coast and what a month costs, each with its source. This page assesses no one.

This page describes the destination for nobody in particular. Answer a few questions and each requirement is set against your own answers, with a monthly budget for your household. Your answers stay in the address bar of your browser; nothing is stored.

A year here

8 of 12 months have a mean temperature inside 10–26 °C, a band we chose and apply to every city alike. Thirty-year normals from NASA POWER, measured at this city’s own coordinates.

How near the sea is

4.0 km

Straight-line distance from this city’s coordinates to the nearest coastline, computed from Natural Earth 1:10m Physical Vectors — Coastline (ne_10m_coastline) v5.1.2 at 1:10,000,000. Natural Earth is public domain, and anyone can download the same file and get the same number.

It is a distance and not an access. A city 8 km from the coast across a mountain ridge is not 8 km from the sea in any sense you would use, and the figure says nothing about what is on that coast — a container terminal and a bay give the same number. The coastline is the outline of the dataset’s land, so a river wide enough to separate land counts as coast.

Air through the year

Valencia, 2025: PM2.5 averaged over 4 reference monitor(s) within 25 km. The World Health Organization’s guideline is 5 µg/m³ and its first interim target is 35.

A hatched month with a dash is one no monitor measured. It is an absence, not clean air, and it is left out of the annual mean.

A month here, for a reference household

Reference household: two adults aged 38 and 37, a one-bedroom home, no children.

Residence fees and health cover are those of EU/EEA free movement (register within three months of arrival). The low, middle and high figures are the 25th, 50th and 75th percentiles where a publisher states them; each line says who published it.

illustrative Money figures on this page are illustrative unless the figure names its publisher. The illustrative ones are arranged so the shape is right — a larger flat costs more than a smaller one, and the expensive cities are the expensive ones — and they are accurate in nothing. Do not plan on them.

This comparison is wider than your screen — scroll it sideways to see the remaining columns.

The lower quartile of the estimate range: a quarter of observations fall below it. Read it as the cheaper end of what is realistic, not as a bargain you can count on.
P50
Full entry
The middle of the estimate range: half the observations fall below it and half above. It is the figure to read first — not a promise, but the most representative single number we have.
P75
Full entry
The upper quartile of the estimate range: a quarter of observations fall above it. Budget against this one if you want room to be wrong.

Valencia, observed 22 September 2026Measured in 2024.Covers every rented home in the city, including tenants who signed years ago. This figure covers rented homes of every size in the city, so it does not change with the number of bedrooms a household needs.Rents in existing contracts — a newcomer is usually asked more.

Per householdMeasured in 2025.An average of what surveyed households actually spent — not a price anyone is charged, and it carries whatever mix of tariffs, dwellings and consumption those households had.Whose spending this is: The average private household resident in the autonomous community during 2025, per household per month, from INE's Encuesta de Presupuestos Familiares — the survey's own "gasto medio por hogar", which INE publishes directly. It is every household in the region, renting or owning, of whatever size; INE states no household size beside this series, so how many people that household holds is not stated here. Adults: 2 · children: 0Measured in 2025.An average of what surveyed households actually spent — not a price anyone is charged, and it carries whatever mix of tariffs, dwellings and consumption those households had.Whose spending this is: Per person, per month, averaged over everyone living in a private household in Comunitat Valenciana during 2025 — the Encuesta de Presupuestos Familiares' own “gasto medio por persona”, which INE publishes directly, so no arithmetic of ours stands between the survey and this figure. It is the average resident of the region and not the average adult: INE publishes one figure per person and no split by age, so a child is charged the same as an adult here. The region stands in for the city.Published per year; shown per month (÷ 12).This is the survey’s average person. Food has strong economies of scale, and the publisher states one figure per person and no split by household size — so a larger household is charged here as though each member shopped alone.

Adults: 2Measured in 2026.A price the publisher states is in force, not a statistic about a market. What this price is for: SUMA Mensual for one zone, one named person, unlimited travel for thirty days on Metrovalencia, EMT, MetroBús and Renfe Cercanías inside that zone. The city sits in zone A. The operator's tariff page also links a temporarily reduced table in force until 31 December 2026; the tariff itself is the figure carried here, because it is the one a household moving after that date pays. This is the price the publisher charges, so there is no range: the low and high figures are the price itself.

More about this figure
A premium or rate the state sets.Per member, by age bandMeasured in 2026.A price the publisher states is in force, not a statistic about a market. What this price is for: The convenio especial — what one person pays each month to buy into Spain's public health system when they are not covered by it. Per subscriber, not per household: RD 576/2013 art. 6.1 sets "cuota mensual de 60 euros" for a subscriber under 65 and "157 euros" at 65 or over, and every member of the household who needs cover subscribes separately. It is not available in the first year. Art. 3 a) requires "residencia efectiva en España durante un período continuado mínimo de un año inmediatamente anterior a la fecha de la solicitud", art. 3 b) requires empadronamiento, and art. 3 c) requires having no other public cover. A household arriving now must hold private insurance for twelve months before this price applies to them, and what that private policy costs is not this figure and is not held anywhere in this report. The article also lets an autonomous community raise the cuota where it adds services of its own to the convenio, so a region may charge more than the state's floor. This is the price the publisher charges, so there is no range: the low and high figures are the price itself.

Children: 0Measured in 2026.A price the publisher states is in force, not a statistic about a market. What this price is for: Basic education in a state or state-funded school, per child, for the ten years between six and sixteen. LO 2/2006 art. 4.1: "La enseñanza básica … es obligatoria y gratuita para todas las personas." Art. 88.1 forbids centres to charge families for the free teaching or to impose paid obligatory services, and expressly excludes "las actividades extraescolares y los servicios escolares", which are voluntary and may be charged for. This is the price the publisher charges, so there is no range: the low and high figures are the price itself.
